Get more sales by adding backend items

Wow - been awhile since we posted anything! We though we'd kick off the "relaunch" of the boocoo blog by giving our sellers some sales tips they can use, both on boocoo and elsewhere.

A great way to help increase your sales and get more customer loyalty is to offer backend products. Backend products are any products you can offer to previous customers that expand on their initial purchase.

It's easier to make a sale to these previous customers than a new customer because you already have a relationship established. You've already put time and energy in to getting their attention, building trust and closing the first sale.

Starting to offer backend products is easy. Just consider what types of products you sell, and think about what else could be marketed to the people who buy those items. You can add more products to your storefront that your target audience would be interested in, but you should also make sure to recommend products similar to the one already purchased from a buyer. When a buyer buys an iphone accessory make sure to offer a case for their phone, or when a customer buys a DVD offer them a rack or a book to store them.

Once a sale is made, you know what your customer likes. Remember that the backend products that you offer should be things your target audience is interested in.

Need help figuring out what other products to offer?

- Offer products that complement your initial product. For example, if you sell pedometers offer your customers an arm band carrier for it, leg weights, running shoes, and anything else that could apply. Maybe offer some hillarious track suits, or even create and sell your own training videos. If you keep your costs minimal any sales would be almost pure profit.

- Offer more of the same product at a discount. This can ensure repeat business if your product is consumable and needs to be bought regularly. If you sell coffee, cleaning supplies or even bananas, then you're ready to go. Even if your product isn't consumable, you can give customers a discount on it so that they can purchase more as gifts.

This same idea is applied in brick and mortar stores, so you can make sure to check them out. You'll notice that in some areas of the store complimentary products are being offered together. The candleholder on sale this week is right on the shelf above refill candles, or a toothbrush, toothpaste and floss are all right there. This is a great example of the same concept. The next time you're out shopping make sure to take a look, maybe you'll get some ideas!

The bottom line is, if you're not offering backend products to your customers, you're losing out on potential income.

Win Something In March!

By now you (hopefully!) know that all through March we're holding a special contest. Whoever can refer the most people to boocoo wins one of four prizes:

  • Week 1: Apple iPad 2
  • Week 2: Kindle Fire
  • Week 3: Nook Tablet
  • Week 4: Apple iPad 2

The person who refers the most visitors to boocoo each week will win the prize. To participate just visit boocoo and log into your account, then copy your special link. Post your personalized link anywhere you want, and every person who clicks your link counts as one referral!

Get more details on the contest rules and prizes, or learn how to enter.

We thought we'd take a moment to help everybody out, and give you some ideas on where and how to post your links. Remember, sharing your link in a variety of different places increases your chances to win.

Facebook/Google+/Twitter/Social Media:
Social media is one of the more obvious places to share your link. No need to hide what it is - flat out ask your friends, family and followers to check out boocoo and help you win a prize! Anyone who registers for boocoo can participate, so they might want to try to compete with you too. Just copy your link from boocoo and paste it in as your status update. Don't limit yourself to Facebook - you could also post links to Google+, Twitter, StumbleUpon, Reddit, LinkedIn or lots of other places.

Your Blog or Website: If you have a blog or a website you can definitely put up a link to boocoo, so that when people click it they access your personalized link.

Email: Copy your link and paste it into an email, then send it out to your friends or your mailing list. Ask recipients to click your link and help you win.

Text Message: That's right, text message! If you have a smartphone you could paste your personalized link into a text message and send it out that way. Your friends can click the link right from their phones.

In Print: We know, some people might consider this to be an "old school" approach, but if that's what you want to do it'll absolutely work. Print your link out and post it somewhere or give it to your friends on a little card. As long as they get your link they'll help you win!

Edit: The winner of week 1 of our contest also had a great idea. He ran a small contest for his own friends, family and customers, with a small giveaway for everyone who used his link. Just another idea on how to win!

That's all we can come up with right now. Can you think of any ideas we missed? Tell us about it in the comments below. And make sure to visit boocoo to learn how to enter. The first week ends Saturday, March 4, so share those links and win!

boocoo Q&A - Can sellers bulk upload products?

You can absolutely have your listings uploaded in bulk to boocoo, but currently there is no program that will allow sellers to do this themselves.

boocoo staff can upload your products into our system, and (of course) there's no charge for this. We can even copy your listings from many other sites, if you've already done the work involved in putting together your product descriptions.

In some cases we can also sync with other sites, so that if an item is sold elsewhere it is removed from boocoo. As we are not able to directly access your accounts on other sites this is a one-way sync - we can remove items from boocoo that sell elsewhere, but we cannot close your listings on other sites if they sell on boocoo.

If you are interested in bulk uploading products to boocoo just contact us and we can help. If your listings already exist on another site you'll probably just have to provide us with your boocoo username, a link to your store, and your PayPal email address. Often this is the only information that we need to get started, but we'll work directly with you in the event that we need more details.

If your products are not already available on another site we may have to work together to get your product data into a spreadsheet, which we can then use to upload to boocoo.
